Historic North/Northeast Portland Today…
a place for everyone

Here is your guide to the 14 thriving business districts in north and inner northeast Portland. These districts originally grew along the old streetcar network (indicated by gray dashed lines) that covered the area 100 years ago.

We’ve included a lot more…schools, parks, libraries, swimming pools and some special points of interest like the Peninsula Park Rose Garden and the Kennedy School. And don’t forget to notice the symbol for bike shops (the bike wheel).

Walking, biking and riding transit are the best ways to get around and to really experience the historic architecture of both commercial and residential streets. We indicate bus routes (yellow streets), bike routes (green & blue streets) as well as off street trails (purple lines), and of course MAX (black dashed line with stations).

Finally, note the one mile long segment of the Willamette Greenway Trail (green dots) on Swan Island which offers great views of our working river. The dashed green line represents the vision of many in the community for a trail along the entire length of the Willamette from the Esplanade to the Columbia River.

Download and print it or pick up a hard copy at an area merchant and go explore these unique business districts with their one of a kind shops, all kinds of refreshments & meals, entertainment, and the simple pleasures of a busy neighborhood scene. Enjoy!

Our thanks to the City of Portland for grants administered by the Alliance of Portland Neighborhood Business Associations that made development and printing of the map possible.
